Atlantis
is a well established group of singers/musicians who cover
the really good popular
classic hits from the last
5 decades and today. With such broad repertoire, including
hits by established artists such as Cliff Richard,
Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly,
Fleetwood
Mac,
general 50’s and 60’s Rock n Roll, Neil Diamond,
The Carpenters, Abba, Oasis, Wet Wet Wet, Boyzone, and recent
artists, for example KT Tunstall and Amy
McDonald. Atlantis
can also include a wide selection of country, pop, folk, etc.
and the band is very happy to tailor its set lists to satisfy
the requirements of any event. It is also very likely that
a requested song for a special occasion can be included (such
as a ‘first dance’ for a wedding).
During the last year or so, Atlantis
has performed
at many public events including two more sell-out concerts
of their
own at The Epsom Playhouse Myers Studio Theatre and
appeared on the main stage at the venue alongside world renowned
opera
singer, Juliette Pochin at the Rotary
Club of Ewell’s ‘Music
For Pleasure’ variety show. The band performed with Ray
Stiles of The Hollies at Ewell’s ‘Herald
of Spring’ event
and Ray also joined their open air concert at the village’s
Summer Street Party. Atlantis has filled the Mezz Bar in
Leatherhead, performed at the Leatherhead Theatre Drama
Festival in the
company of Sir Michael Caine, headlined at Epsom’s
Picnic In the Park, Derby and Autumn Festivals,
entertained shoppers several times in The Mall Ashley and
played to an audience of thousands at the big Epsom
town Christmas lights switch on celebrations beside the landmark
Clock Tower in the main square. Other appearances included
The Swan Centre for Leatherhead’s
Christmas Lights Festival and at the same location for Red
Nose Day/Comic Relief when the group had shoppers dancing
around their carrier bags in the precinct! The band performed
in Epsom’s
market place again for Age Concern’s anniversary promotion
day.
At
the end of 2006, ATLANTIS was honoured to be endorsed by
the Surrey Federation of WI’s and have each year since
been added to their Year Book with recommendation – following
a very rigorous audition and selection process! The band has
as a result been hired to perform numerous times at WI meetings
and socials.
On Thursday, 19th April, 2007, Atlantis
was privileged to be invited to attend the Borough of Epsom
and Ewell's annual
Voluntary Service Awards ceremony at the Town Hall and were
truly delighted to be presented with one of these very special
awards by the borough's then Mayor, Cllr. David Wood. They
were nominated by The Epsom Playhouse for the group’s
contribution to fund raising and the support of many charity
events and organisations at the venue and throughout the borough,
plus their continued work with the elderly.
Atlantis has made two acoustic performances on BBC
Southern Counties Radio, including a one hour long interview and performance
slot on the Sylvie Blackmore Sunday Afternoon Show. The group
performed 6 songs and were promptly invited back for the Christmas
show for a festive performance of 4 more songs. The group put
together a local teenage choir to back them.
In the Spring, Atlantis performed again
at Ewell Village’s
popular annual Herald of Spring event at Bourne Hall and they
were especially chosen to entertain the Mayor of Epsom and
Ewell, Cllr. Jean Steer and her guests, at her Mayoral Dinner
at the same venue that weekend.
A seventh ‘sold out’ concert at The Epsom Playhouse
Myers Studio Theatre took place early summer. The band had
the audience on their feet and literally dancing in the aisles
with their performance of the most popular hits from the last
five decades. The concert really rocked and a number of the
audience who’d been in to see the production of Oliver!
in the main theatre stage were caught trying to gatecrash the
Myers Studio after that performance had finished to join in
the fun with Atlantis!
In June, the group also appeared at the hugely
popular and extremely well attended annual Ashtead
Village Day charity
event (more than 22,000 visitors attended) and have already
been booked to perform at the next one!
Recently, Atlantis has ventured into
performances at ‘select’ public
houses for the first time, including The Chequers pub in Walton
on the Hill, The White Horse Pub in Epsom, The
Cock Horse in
Headley and The Game Cock in Worcester Park. They were resounding
successes and repeat bookings will follow.
Atlantis still finds time to fit in
many corporate, private and charity performances for all
kinds of functions, including
dinner dances, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, plus Christmas,
Easter and summer parties and barbecues – in locations
as diverse as theatres, front rooms, private gardens, municipal
parks, marquees, town squares and high streets, also restaurants,
pubs, golf and country clubs, residential homes for the elderly
and hospitals.
Potential clients are more than welcome to see the band in
rehearsal at their studio in Kingswood, Surrey by arrangement.
